Renault Espace (97-03) - Review Review by Parkers on 01 January 1997 This Espace is the third generation of the car that started the European people-carrier phenomenon back in the mid-1980s. Always a leader, it stays ahead of the current pack, with clever use of space, slick styling, improved ride, and better driveability, plus the safest body in its class. But the current generation has built a following among middle-class families with its chic looks and aerodynamic profile. It's not a cheap used buy, but it's worth every penny. 4 out of 5 Other Renault reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Buying used Up against the Ford Galaxy, Toyota Previa and Peugeot 806, Espace looks a little pricey. But it is very clever with cabin space, quite reliable and an all-round good drive. Buyers can look forward to class-leading residual values. Best performing are the 2.2 diesels, which are quiet and pleasant to drive. Buyers prefer models with air-conditioning, but the only models that struggle are those that have not been maintained properly.
