Renault Espace (97-03) - Review

Review by Parkers on
This Espace is the third generation of the car that started the European people-carrier phenomenon back in the mid-1980s. Always a leader, it stays ahead of the current pack, with clever use of space, slick styling, improved ride, and better driveability, plus the safest body in its class. But the current generation has built a following among middle-class families with its chic looks and aerodynamic profile. It's not a cheap used buy, but it's worth every penny.

Comfort

Seats are firm, but supportive and there's plenty of room for a medium to large sized family. Legroom for the two rear seats is restricted and they're better suited to children.

Practicality

One of the few MPVs that can carry seven passengers and a decent amount of luggage (it's even better in the Grand Espace). All seven-seaters have folding and removeable seats. For added practicality, RXE and Initiale have floor rails, allowing the seats to be configured to your liking.

Behind the wheel

The simple layout of the dash appeals to many owners, with controls and switches hidden away, giving a clean and sophisticated look. It also acts as a deterrent to thieves as the stereo and CD autochanger are concealed from view and fully integrated.
