Renault Megane Hatchback (02-06) - Review

Review by Parkers on
The Megane looked pretty radical when it was first launched in 2002 and split opinion as to whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. It's available in a number of different bodystyles, and in an attempt to be all things to all men can be specified with a wide variety of engines and equipment levels. It excels in many areas, including safety and value, but a series of mechanical and electrical gremlins may make buyers think about another model.

Buying used

Huge choice at the car supermarkets. Many have been disposed of by fleets. These cars may be high mileage, but they're usually well looked after and would have spent much of their life on the motorway (so the engines haven't been too stressed). Diesels and high-spec models are commanding the best money. Don't pay too much for a 1.4 or a car with base Authentique trim.

Selling

Demand is reasonably strong for certain models but colour sensitive Fiestas and 1.4 engines don't tend to sell particularly well. To seal the deal, price it sensibly and emphasise Megane’s good points: it’s got outstanding safety features, distinctive looks and it’s well kitted out, too.
