Renault Megane Sport Tourer (09 on) - Review

The Renault Megane Sport Tourer does a decent job of combining load-lugging capability with stylish looks. It's not something that can be said of similar cars of this size that often tend to lack one or the other. This estate versoin is aimed at the Ford Focus Estate, Peugeot 308 SW and Volkswagen Golf Estate and its load area of 1,567 litres with the split rear seats down (486 litres with the seats up) is extremely competitive, while extra room in the back compared to the hatchback means rear passengers should be more comfortable. Keen pricing, a wide range of petrol and diesel engines and a clean, modern interior makes it a tempting proposition for family buyers. All versions are fitted with a folding front passenger seat, which means items up to 2.55m long can be carried. There’s also a handy boot divider that makes it easier to keep smaller items securely in place while on the move. There’s five petrol and five diesel units in the line-up and they offer power outputs ranging from 90 to 180bhp. The diesels include the powerful and economical 2.0 dCi 160 unit while CO2 emissions go as low as 106g/km on the dCi 110 model. The Megane Sport Tourer has an extensive kit list even on the entry level Expression models. As well as the Expression trim buyers can choose the mid-range Dynamique Tom Tom or the top-spec GT Line Tom Tom models. Premium equipment features and options available include leather upholstery, an electric panoramic sunroof, automatic headlamps and wipers, automatic parking brake, parking sensors, dual zone climate control and Bluetooth connectivity. A fully integrated sat nav is standard on the Dynamique TomTom and GT Line TomTom models. In June 2010 the Mégane Sport Tourer became one of the first models to benefit from Renault’s automatic EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) transmission that provides quicker gearchanges and fuel-saving benefits. As well as a five-star Euro NCAP rating for safety, a strong kit list, economical diesel engines the roomy cabin and load area means the Renault Megane Sport Tourer could be a sensible choice for young families looking for practicality as well as style.
