SEAT Altea Hatchback (04 on) - Review Review by Dan Harrison on 09 August 2006 Last Updated: 25 February 2010 The SEAT Altea was billed as the sexiest people carrier ever when it was launched - and we reckon that's spot-on. The sweeping lines and sharp styling give it a sporty look that few other family cars can match. There's more to the Altea than just a pretty face though. It has a range of modern and efficient engines, lots of equipment and although it only seats five, it makes the most of the available space. It isn't particularly versatile though and the rear seats don't do anything clever like folding flat. It is however, good value and there's even a sporty FR model available which gets improved handling and a sportier specification. In July 2009 it was revised with subtle exterior changes, engine tweaks and a much more upmarket interior. The entry-level Reference gets power steering, air conditioning, a CD stereo, electric front windows, remote central locking and driver’s seat height and lumbar adjustment. The Stylance adds electric door mirrors, climate control, steering wheel stereo controls, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, a front passenger seat with height and lumbar adjustment plus a leather covered steering wheel and gear lever. The Sport adds ESP stability control, racier five-spoke alloy wheels, sports seats and sport suspension. FR models - from April 2006 - are the sportiest in the range and have an electronic stability programme, two-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, titanium-coloured door mirrors, re-designed bumpers and chromed twin exhaust pipes. In 2009 the Altea was revised and the trim levels changed to S, S Emocion, SE and Sport. The Ecomotive model, launched in 2010, is available in S and SE trims.
