SEAT Exeo ST (09 on) - Review

Review by Dan Harrison on
Last Updated: 21 February 2011
This ST estate is the load carrying version of SEAT’s upmarket and high value Exeo model. Like the saloon version, it’s heavily based on the Audi A4 that ran from 2005 to 2008. That’s good news as it looks smart, is well designed and great to drive too. But whereas Audi could be accused of being stingy when it came to standard specification, the Exeo is very well equipped – regardless of which model you choose. All cars have Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, an iPod connection, cruise control and steering wheel-mounted stereo controls, while top models boast leather upholstery and swivelling xenon headlights. The engine range is limited, but features a great diesel engine that’s available with 120, 140 and 170bhp.

Running costs

The Exeo ST is not only attractively priced new, but for a car of this size, is cheap to run. Buyers of the diesel can look forward to fuel economy in excess of 50mpg, while relative low CO2 levels make for affordable road tax and company car tax rates. SEAT dealers generally offer good value servicing and insurance should be reasonable.

Emissions summary

The CO2 emissions across the range are impressively low for this type of car and if it wasn’t for the 200bhp 2.0-litre petrol, the average for the range would be very low indeed. Average fuel economy is good and every car has an indicator that shows when to change gear, so you keep the engine revs low and save fuel. Unlike other SEAT models, it is unlikely that there will be an ultra-efficient Ecomotive version.
