SEAT Ibiza Sport Coupe (08 on) - Review

Shorter and lower than the five-door Ibiza, the Sport Coupe is the name SEAT has given to the three-door version of its small hatchback. It looks similar from the front with the same sharp nose and distinctive headlights, but the big differences are at the back where the redesigned side window and rear pillars give it a more coupe-like appearance. It's good to drive, just like the five-door model, plus there are different suspension settings available including a sports set-up. Inside it's modern and unfussy with a good driving position but while the boot is a decent size the rear seats are cramped and legroom is limited. That's one of few gripes though and overall the Ibiza SC is a stylish and well-equipped small hatchback. In October 2010 a 1.2-litre TSI engine was added to the line-up. Despite the small size the engine is impressive and an excellent combination of economy and performance.

Equipment

Equipment levels are generous and identical to those on the five-door Ibiza. This means even the entry-level S model gets a height and reach adjustable steering column, electric front windows, remote central locking, CD stereo, steering column-mounted remote audio controls and an auxiliary input for iPods and MP3 players. The Ecomotive adds air conditioning, body-coloured mirrors and door handles plus a trip computer. Move up to the SE and you get electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, cruise control and 15-inch alloy wheels. Sport models include sports suspension, sports seats, a leather steering wheel and gear lever and 16-inch alloys. The most popular options are bundled together in packs, with the Convenience Pack offering rear parking sensors, rain sensitive wipers and a coming home headlight function. Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which includes Emergency Brake Assist is part of a pack that adds tyre pressure monitoring system and a hill-hold control function. There is no integrated satellite navigation system, but customers can choose a bespoke dock and holder for popular portable systems that don't need to be attached to the windscreen with a suction pad.
