Skoda Fabia Saloon (01-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Brits don't really like small saloons, so the booted Fabia isn't a common sight on our roads. Good new for the used buyer, as values are generally lower than the value-packed hatchback. Well equipped with a smooth ride and cheaper and than Volkswagen's own Polo. Some early models have minor quality issues, but overall it's well built and good value.

Comfort

Fabia has a simple, but elegant interior (with the exception of a few models with questionable seat fabrics). Comfort levels approach that of cars the next size up with space enough in the back for adults and a level of ride refinement other superminis rarely match. Simple interior uses high quality materials and is attractive in a functional way. Roomier than Volkswagen's own Polo, on which it's based.

Practicality

Large boot for a small car with class-leading capacity (although small saloons are quite rare). Can be extended by folding the split/folding rear seats for larger loads. Plastics do tend to mark quite easily. A couple of cupholders inside, but no clever cubby-bins.

Behind the wheel

A clear logic to the controls, with chunky heating and ventilation dials and an easy-to-use stereo - similar in style to other VW and Audi products, but with less concern for looking stylish. End result is pleasingly simplistic yet ideally placed. Good driving position with decent seats and well-placed pedals. Good forward and rear visibility.
