Skoda Roomster (06 on) - Review

The bold and distinctive Roomster is a small family car that stands out from the crowd. While not everyone may be a fan of the styling, it's certainly different and also helps maximise room inside. Its party trick is a clever rear compartment which offers immense flexibility between passenger and luggage space. The rear seats can slide and recline; any of the three individual seats can be folded or removed; plus the middle seat can be taken away and the two outer seats slid inward giving extra room for two passengers. Minimum luggage space is already good with the rear seats in place but becomes van-like with the removed. A Scout version from mid-2007 adds 4x4-like looks with body cladding and a higher ride height, but without four-wheel drive.

Equipment

The standard Roomster comes with electric front windows, a CD stereo, front, side and curtain airbags, height-adjustable drivers seat and a 12V socket in the boot. The Roomster 2 adds alloy wheels, an alarm, air conditioning, electrically adjustable door mirrors, remote central locking, floor mats, a trip computer and chrome highlights inside. The Roomster 3 gets larger alloys, a front armrest, cruise control, panoramic sunroof and parking sensors. Options include satellite navigation, roof rails, a bicycle holder, stability control, heated front seats and electric rear windows. The Scout model was launched in mid 2007 and has plastic body mouldings, unique interior upholstery, roof rails, tyre pressure monitors, electronic stability control, leather steering wheel and gearknob, aluminium pedals, cruise control, air conditioning, trip computer, remote central locking and unique 16-inch alloys. At the beginning of 2009 the trim levels were changed to S, SE and Scout.
