Skoda Roomster (06 on) - Review

The bold and distinctive Roomster is a small family car that stands out from the crowd. While not everyone may be a fan of the styling, it's certainly different and also helps maximise room inside. Its party trick is a clever rear compartment which offers immense flexibility between passenger and luggage space. The rear seats can slide and recline; any of the three individual seats can be folded or removed; plus the middle seat can be taken away and the two outer seats slid inward giving extra room for two passengers. Minimum luggage space is already good with the rear seats in place but becomes van-like with the removed. A Scout version from mid-2007 adds 4x4-like looks with body cladding and a higher ride height, but without four-wheel drive.

Safety

The Roomster uses high-strength steel in key areas of its structure and six airbags (front, side and curtain) are standard, so it's little surprise that it was awarded the maximum five star crash safety rating by Euro NCAP. It also has Isofix child seat mounting points in the rear. However originally the ESP stability control system was optional on all but the Scout model. This changed in 2009 and now all cars come with it as standard. A tyre pressure monitoring system is also available as an option, as are cornering front fog lights and headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

Reliability

Skodas are very reliable and the Roomster is no exception. Many of its components have already been proven in other Volkswagen Group vehicles and Skoda often tops customer satisfaction and reliability surveys.
