Smart Fortwo Cabriolet (07 on) - Review Review by Dan Harrison on 17 September 2007 Last Updated: 20 September 2010 This is the convertible version of the car that most people know simply as the Smart car - although it looks very similar the normal coupe. The model's picked up a cult following since being launched in right-hand drive form in 2001 and is now an everyday sight in towns and cities up and down the country. It's easy to see why: it's fun, simple to park, cheap to run and well equipped for urban life. The cheeky cabriolet version injects an extra dose of fun and feel-good factor in the summer thanks to a fabric roof that quickly folds down. Unfortunately it shares the same sluggish gearbox as the coupe model and is not great on open roads. However, there is a Brabus version available which adds more power and a sporty bodykit. 3.5 out of 5 Other Smart reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Gallery 2.5 out of 5 Equipment Three trim levels are offered in the standard Fortwo range - Pure, Pulse and Passion. The entry-level Pure is very sparse though and comes with ESP electronic stability programme, anti-lock brakes, remote central locking, a CD stereo, steel wheels but little else. The Pulse adds alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, rev counter and clock on the dashboard, three-spoke leather steering wheel, front fog lights, electric windows and steering wheel mounted gear shift paddles. Upgrades in 2009 added air conditioning and the softouch transmission as standard. The top of the range Passion gets air conditioning, silver painted grille and door mirrors, a luggage compartment cover, switchable automatic gearbox and 12-spoke alloy wheels. Models from 2009 add a Pioneer navigation system, Bluetooth and iPod/USB connectivity. The sporty Brabus has climate control, side airbags, 'Monoblock VI' alloy wheels, sports exhaust, sports suspension and lots of Brabus branding throughout.
