Subaru Impreza STi (08 on) - Review Review by David Ross on 25 September 2008 Last Updated: 05 November 2009 Thanks to a high profile in rallying, Subaru is well-renowned for its performance cars - in particular the Impreza. You could spot the previous model a mile off with its huge spoiler and booming exhaust, but the firm has taken a different tack and the 2008 Impreza WRX STi is a very different car compared to what went before. For starters it is a rounded hatchback (rather than a four-door boxy saloon) and the extreme styling has been toned down. As a result it appears more grown up and less like it's been fitted with aftermarket extras. Unfortunately the interior looks and feels cheap while the unforgiving ride merely highlights the lack of refinement. It is quick of course and the 300bhp 2.5-litre turbocharged engine propels it to 60mph in a mere 4.8 seconds, but ultimately the Impreza STi feels dated and lacks sophistication. 3 out of 5 Other Subaru reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Gallery 4 out of 5 Equipment The WRX STi comes well equipped, as you'd expect from the top of the range Impreza. Climate control, a six-disc in dash CD autochanger, cruise control and Alcantara/leather front bucket seats are the highlights in the cabin while the exterior gets 17-inch wheels, extended wheelarches, a roof spoiler and an integrated rear bumper diffuser (to reduce lift at high speeds). The STi also comes with Subaru Vehicle Dynamics Control (a sophisticated traction and stability control system), electronic brakeforce distribution, Brembo high performance brakes, Xenon headlights plus the Multi-mode Driver Control Centre Differential as standard. The DCCD system is operated via a switch on the centre console and allows the driver to manually select the power distribution front and rear - which also adjusts the steering response. The 330S version has a DVD player, unique bucket sports seats, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, a high performance exhaust, rear privacy glass, a push button start and keyless entry.
