Suzuki Splash (08 on) - Review

The Suzuki Splash is a five-door small family car with a versatile interior and cheap to run engines. Its light steering and zippy performance make it ideal for city driving, while the tall roof means plenty of room for two adults and three kids. It was designed and is built alongside the Vauxhall Agila and - despite the Suzuki brand being less prevalent in the UK - the Splash is better equipped. Unlike Vauxhall's equivalent, air-conditioning, split-folding rear seats and an MP3-compatible CD stereo come as standard - of the two siblings, we’d go for the Splash as it offers better value for money.

Buying new

The Vauxhall Agila (the Splash's sister car) may have a lower starting price, but that's for an entry-level model which is sparsely equipped. The Splash is better equipped compared with equivalently priced Agila variants plus, unlike the Vauxhall, all models get standard air conditioning and stability control. It's still worth attempting to negotiate some sort of discount though or asking for metallic paint to be included for free.

Buying used

Try your nearest Suzuki dealer for the best selection of second hand Splash models. Three year old petrol models will be worth about £3,500 after three years, with diesels retaining a slight premium. All models come well equipped with air conditioning, a CD player and front electric windows as standard.

Selling

Demand continues to be high for affordable small family cars, and the Splash fits the bill. It’s compact, yet practical and its appeal is helped no end by its frugal, low-emission engines. Sensibly priced models in good condition should be easy to sell if the Splash’s key qualities are emphasised to potential buyers.
