Toyota Celica Coupe (94-99) - Review

Review by Parkers on
This generation of Celica - from 1994-199 - was never an out-and-out sports car, it is more of a grand tourer, and it appears both expensive and outclassed now. The entry level 1.8 helps, but its handling and performance are well off the Fiat Coupe's pace. A car for the driver who wants to cruise quickly and reliably in relaxing style.

Comfort

The Celica may not be much of a sports car anymore, but it certainly knows how to look after its passengers. The interior though is Toyota hatchback drab, but never mind, the seats are very comfortable indeed. There is even room for two more (small) passengers in the back. Noise levels are kept to a minimum. Relaxing, roomy and comfy.

Practicality

There's a large, deep boot that's easy to access and should cope with most day-today loads. Door bins and other minor storage areas.

Behind the wheel

From behind the wheel, you could be in any of Toyota's mid-nineties' hatchbacks. It just doesn't feel special. However, the seats are good - as is the driving position - and the controls and instruments are logically and clearly laid out. Some of the seat fabrics are of questionable taste.
