Toyota Corolla Hatchback (97-00) - Review Review by Parkers on 01 January 1997 Toyota tried very hard indeed to give this generation of Corolla a personality, hence the bug eyed styling. Also the rear light clusters are different for every model. It didn't really work - this Corolla is now considered as bland as every model that went before it. Only the sporty G6 attempts to inject some youth appeal. 3 out of 5 Other Toyota reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3 out of 5 Safety Toyota equipped the Corolla range generously - for its age - when it came to safety. Driver and passenger airbags are standard, with ABS brakes on some models, and power steering and remote locking are also fitted throughout the range. In the Euro NCAP crash ratings the Corolla scored a creditable three stars out of a possible four (tests are now out of five). Remote central locking is standard, as is an engine immobiliser, with an alarm standard on all models above the GS.
