Toyota Previa (90-00) - Review Review by Parkers on 01 January 1990 The Previa is both huge and hugely impressive as a people carrier that first addressed the problem of where all the MPV occupants were going to put their luggage. Although buyers get a lot vehicle for their money, it's not such brilliant value for money when you compare specification, equipment and flexibility with many rivals. Only the GL initially got a driver's airbag and ABS brakes, although an electric sunroof is standard. The Chrysler Grand Voyager and Renault Grand Espace are its biggest rivals, but the Previa can still make an egg-shaped case for itself. Not surprisingly it seats eight! 3 out of 5 Other Toyota reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3.5 out of 5 Performance Power is not an issue for most MPVs, and the Previa proves to be a very willing performer. The one 2.4 litre petrol engine may not be economical, but it makes up for that with eager performance which sees it to 60 mph in just over 11 seconds and a top speed over 110 mph. The automatic gearbox though on the GL and GX blunts that performance edge. 3 out of 5 Handling The Previa shows its age on the road and is probably the most van-like of this generation of MPVs. Even so the ride is pretty good with the front and rear wheels being so far apart and handling is acceptable. The only thing is the bulk of the bodywork could make nervous drivers a little more anxious. Tidy handling; easy to manoeuvre; leans in corners and is affected by side-winds.
