Previa is one of the MPV world's grandees. It was originally launched in 1990 and was one of the first purpose-built people-carriers on the market. The current model went on sale in 2000, with a space-age look, better practicality and, most importantly, a diesel engine. Ten-year-old examples still fetch upwards of £2000 - an indicator of how highly regarded they are.

Safety

Usual airbags and ABS, brake pedal retreats in a collision, fuel cut off, ISOFIX child seat fixing points. More space between the back row of seats and the rear of the vehicle than some rivals. Immobiliser and alarm but it's advisable to fit a tracking system.

Reliability

We've heard of no reliability issues, since it went on sale in 2000. The only foreseeable problems are neglectful owners who don't keep to the service schedule, and interior damage from heavy-handed families.
