Vauxhall Astra Convertible (01-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
The four-seater soft-top Vauxhall Astra Convertible is based on the sleek-looking Astra Coupé and is a sensible choice for those who can't stretch to a Saab 9-3 or Audi A4. Attractively styled by Italian design team Bertone and one of the most popular variants of the Mk4 Astra, this convertible offers buyers a bargain proposition blending great looks, a stylish electric hood and potent performance at a price that won’t break the bank. The impressive Astra TwinTop succeeded Astra Convertible in 2006.

Safety

Astra Convertible scored four out of five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests and the reinforced windscreen pillars and rear steel head restraints provide passengers with sufficient rollover protection. It’s packed with safety features, including front airbags, ABS, and three-point seatbelts throughout, while traction control is fitted on all but 1.6 models. Soft-tops can be vulnerable to theft, but all models get remote central locking with deadlocks, an alarm and immobiliser. Additional security measures may be needed to reassure insurers.

Reliability

We haven’t heard of any major issues reported with the convertible, and, unlike some soft-tops, the electric roof mechanism seems to be dependable and well built.
