Vauxhall Astra Hatchback (91-98) - Review

Review by Parkers on
A long-running favourite with family buyers but now looking dated. The Astra fulfils most people's expectations of an inexpensive small family car thanks to affordable running costs. There's a huge choice of versions to suit most purposes but higher specification models would be the ones to seek out. Older cars may have been through many hands and possibly 'clocked', so be very wary if history is incomplete.

Buying used

Lots to choose from so take your time and don't pay big money on one. Standard 1.6 is more powerful and more economical than the Hi Torq 1.4 whilst diesel units can run to very high mileages without problem. GSi model is a good budget performance car.

Selling

It doesn't capture the buying public's imagination but its well known enough to be a default purchase to many buyers looking for a run of the mill family hatch so ought to sell pretty quick if you've been realistic with the price.
