The Insignia is the successor to the Vectra – a car that’s been a firm favourite with families and company car drivers for many years. As you'd expect, it inherits many of the Vectra’s strengths.

Running costs

Vauxhall Insignia running costs are pretty impressive really. It's generally an affordable car to buy and own – especially if bought used. Insurance is very competitive for this type of car and Vauxhall parts and servicing tend to be good value for money. The petrol engines are a concern when it comes to fuel economy and road tax though – they’re off the pace compared to similar models from other manufacturers. The V6 petrol, which is coupled with a four-wheel drive system has a very high CO2 figure, which puts it firmly in the highest road tax bracket. The diesels perform better, but still lag behind the standards set by other cars.

The estimated fuel cost figure is a guide to how much this model will cost to fuel each year, so you can compare between cars. It's calculated by using the model's average mpg (calculated from both town centre and motorway driving) and the average fuel price. It's based on the following cost-per-litre: petrol 134p and diesel 138p. Prices are updated daily.

Emissions summary

Vauxhall Insignia emissions and fuel economy are only average yet Vauxhall likes to compare the Insignia to upmarket models like the BMW 3-Series. However, in this case, it’s not favourable. The 2.0-litre diesel BMW 318d returns 60mpg and emits 123g/km of CO2, while the Insignia 2.0 CDTi manages just 49mpg and puts out 154g/km of CO2. There’s no clever stop-start fuel saving models and disappointingly, some of the petrol engines emit slightly more CO2 than their predecessors in the Vectra.
