Vauxhall Zafira (99-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
This Astra-based seven-seater was Vauxhall’s surprise package upon its launch in 1999. Its innovative ‘Flex 7’ seat-folding technology was a forerunner for many of today’s flexible people carriers, putting it ahead of its peers in terms of use of space, while its compact size means it’s a good drive, too. Unfortunately, the ride is ponderous and the rear seats are for small children only, but Zafira is a great choice for the family buyer in need of practical versatility and a bit of fun.

Running costs

Zafira is a wanted vehicle and this strong demand keeps residuals up. The Astra-based mechanicals are affordable and easy to maintain, plus fuel economy is good for all engines. The frugal diesel 2.0-litre DTi achieves 44mpg, which is impressive for a seven-seater. Insurance groups are average for the class, with the exception of the GSi, beginning at group 5 for the 1.6-litre.
