Volkswagen Golf Plus (05-08) - Review

The Golf Plus sits between the standard Golf hatchback and the Touran people carrier in the Volkswagen range, making it ideal for those who want a more useful alternative to a standard hatch. It's never proved as popular as the normal Golf, but this is good news if you're buying second hand as prices tend to be lower across the board. It's as good to drive and has plenty of boot space while long distance comfort is impressive. There's a decent choice of engines too, including some frugal diesels along with a low-emissions Bluemotion version.

Buying used

This Volkswagen has never proved as popular as other models and as a result used prices are actually lower compared to an equivalent Golf. This means you can get a good bargain if you hunt around, but avoid early S models - the Luna that replaced it as the entry-level model has much better kit as standard. The Golf Plus was replaced by a newer version in 2009, but this is more of a facelift than a totally new model.

Selling

It may not be as desirable as a Golf, but the Volkswagen badge means the Golf Plus has plenty going for it. It's worth emphasising the large boot and extra rear passenger space to potential buyers who aren't sure of the benefits over a standard Golf hatch.
