Volkswagen Passat Estate (97-01) - Review

Review by Parkers on
The Passat Mk 4 was the embodiment of Volkswagen values when launched in 1997: better built than rivals, ultra-reliable and engaging to drive. That wasn't all - it was generously equipped, had fine engines and subtle styling that stood head and shoulders above Mondeo, Vectra and the stodgy old Passat Mk 3.

Comfort

Like a Saville Row suit inside: good looking and high quality. High quality plastic used throughout to create a subtle, but sophisticated fascia and dashboard look. Good seats and lots of space for all passengers.

Practicality

A large load area, that can be extended with the split/folding seats. Up to the job of taking most loads. Easy to load, too. Large enough for dogs to travel comfortably in the back.

Behind the wheel

Even large drivers should be able to get comfy behind the wheel - there's ample adjustment to the driving position. A sober and functional and attractive interior with everything close to hand.
