Volkswagen Sharan (00-10) - Review Review by Ben Wall on 26 January 2007 Last Updated: 18 November 2009 The Sharan is Volkswagen's full-sized people carrier that offers impressive cabin space for up to seven adults along with a comfortable ride and decent refinement. If it looks familiar, that's because it's the sister car to both the SEAT Alhambra and the 2000 Ford Galaxy, but while the Galaxy was replaced by a more stylish model in 2006, the Sharan (and the Alhambra for that matter) continue. As a result, it is starting to look a little dated, not helped by a boxy shape and a rather bland interior. It's proved very reliable and durable though, while there's also a Bluemotion low-emissions model available. However, the SEAT Alhambra represents better value for money, both new and used. S models come with air conditioning, ABS, electric front windows, central locking and twin front and side airbags. The SE adds remote central locking, an alarm, front seat height and lumbar adjustment, rear electric windows, a luggage cover, roof rails, velour upholstery and a storage pack. The Sport comes with 16-inch alloys, front fog lights, sports seats, leather trim and cloth upholstery and sports suspension while the top Carat trim gets electronic climate control, Alcantara and leather upholstery, heated front seats and walnut trim. An SL special edition was available in 2001 which is based on the S but adds 16-inch alloys, roof rails and two integrated child seats. The Carat was dropped from the line-up in 2005. The Bluemotion model is based on the S trim.
