Volvo S40 (96-04) - Review Review by Parkers on 01 January 1996 The Volvo S40/V40 saloons and estates are often passed over because of their conservative looks and less than exciting drive. But they can be great used buys: comfortable, very safe, with a wide choice of specification. while its image may fall short of Audi A4, BMW 3-Series or VW Passat, S40/V40 makes a convincing case as a classier alternative to Vectra and Mondeo. Some early cars were not quite up to scratch in terms of build quality, but improvements were soon made and the range is now a sensible secondhand buy. 3 out of 5 Other Volvo reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3.5 out of 5 Comfort Volvo makes supportive and comfortable car seats - S40 is no different. There should be few complaints on long journeys, although the rear is better suited to two adults. Head and legroom is adequate. A sensible car to be driven in, but one that lacks a sense of occasion. 3.5 out of 5 Practicality Plenty of boot space (enough for at least a couple of suitcases). Easy to access and load. Good sized glovebox and a few little cubbies, too. Get a Volvo S40 valuation How does the boot space compare? Good driving position, though visibility could be a lot better. The dials are clear and the big, chunky, buttons are easy to use.
