Volvo S80 (98-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Volvo's executive class saloon is a worthy rival to the German class leaders. With excellent equipment and a beautifully designed cabin, the S80 is incredibly sophisticated, safe, subtle and sleek. To emphasise its market position, there's not even an estate version. Like Saab, Volvo has maintained its individuality and solid Swedish sensibilities, but not at the expense of style.

Performance

Petrol engines range from 140bhp which is a bit sluggish up to 272bhp which is rapid. Then there are smooth diesel units and the option of LPG and CNG bi-fuel units.

Handling

S80 is a motorway muncher of the first order with a cushioning ride but steering is rather imprecise and it wallows on twists and turns. Not a sportscar but then no one would buy it as such.
