The Berlingo Multispace scored a reasonable four stars out of five for occupant protection in official European crash tests. Although twin front airbags are standard, customers have to pay extra for side and curtain airbags (although side airbags are standard on the top XTR model). Electronic stability control is offered as an option on VTR and XTR models but isn’t available on VT cars.

In 2015 the facelift brought more safety kit, including automatic low-speed braking, front parking sensors and reversing camera.

The Berlingo Multispace is an incredibly useful and versatile load carrier and, unlike the original version, the rear seats can be removed rather than just folded. This increases space massively, resulting in a maximum load volume of 3000 litres – effectively turning it into a small van. The rear passenger doors slide open and there are cubbyholes throughout the cabin, while overhead stowage compartments can be specified.

The bootlight doubles as a removable rechargeable torch while customers can choose a split opening tailgate, where the window can be opened independently.
