1.6 is the starting point, followed by 1.8 and 2.0 litre models both of which gained a power hike from 1995 onwards thanks to 16 valve heads. Turbocharged 2.0 litre units give good performance and the 3.0 litre V6 is stronger still although considerably more thirsty (and quite rare). Turbo diesels are as refined as petrol engines.

Citroën’s legendary hydropneumatic suspension gives fantastic ride comfort with strong roadholding and well controlled handling although its not a particularly rewarding driver’s car. Turbo Activa model has Active Roll Control, which eliminates bodyroll in corners
