A Ford Mondeo that has travelled the equivalent distance of going to the moon and back, plus twice around the equator, went under the hammer recently at BCA London.

The 04-plate Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 115 LX estate was snapped up in a sale of dealer part-exchange cars.

The intergalactic mileage recorded made it impossible to use price guides to value - the highest mileage available to adjust for from Parker's is 200,000 miles, giving a part exchange value of £1185.

BCA's UK operations director Simon Henstock said: 'The performance by this Mondeo estate model must be seen as exceptional - and certainly not the norm.

'If this car had been offered via any other remarketing channel, it is less likely that the seller would have seen such a returnm as it outperformed all expectations.

'The live competitive bidding that takes place during the auction process is critical to achieving the true worth of any asset and when the buyers are out in force and demand is high, the results can be spectacular.'
