A facelifted Ford Mondeo will go on sale in the UK in October, bringing an uprated interior and a new 200bhp diesel engine option.

The styling changes include a new front grille and revised bonnet, new front bumpers and LED daytime running lights. At the back are LED tail lights.

Inside is a restyled centre console, new door furniture and a new overhead console with ambient lighting. A host of new materials have also been employed in the upgrade.

Ford has also made a number of changes under the bonnet, with a new 2.2-litre TDCi diesel now offering 200bhp. It joins the recently upgraded 2.0-litre units in 115, 140 and 163bhp guises. All engines emit 139g/km of CO2.

Also new to the range is the 2.0-litre petrol EcoBoost engine that delivers 240bhp with CO2 emissions of 179g/km.

All models are fitted with a host of fuel-saving technologies including brake energy recuperation and an Active Grille Shutter system which controls airflow through the grille to make the car more aerodynamic.

Prices and UK specifications will be announced nearer to the October launch.
