Volkswagen has released details of its lowest emission model ever - the new Polo BlueMotion.

Powered by a 1.2-litre 75bhp TDI diesel engine, the three or five-door hatchback emits just 91g/km of CO2 and returns fuel economy of 80.7mpg.

For company car drivers, the new model escapes VED payments and qualifies for the lowest 13% benefit-in-kind tax rating for the next three years.

With regenerative braking and stop-start technology, Volkswagen claims the Polo can achieve more than 800 miles on a single tank of diesel.

Helping to achieve this figure are several aerodynamic tweaks, including a redesigned front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler, together with low rolling resistance tyres.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, leather steering wheel, four airbags and electronic stability control.

The Polo BlueMotion is on sale now, priced from £14,445 (five-door: £15,045).
