Van drivers are being targeted by a new government campaign aimed at making them safer on the road.

The 64-page Safe Vans Guide is part of the Driving for Better Business campaign, run by charity Roadsafe as part of the Driving for Work Road Safety strategy funded by the Department for Transport.

The main aim of the guide is to raise awareness of the importance of work-related road safety across both private companies and public sector organisations.

By adopting the suggestions made in the guide, it is claimed that companies can reduce their accident rates and also make cost savings through reduce vehicle downtime, lower insurance premiums and reduced wear and tear on vans.

So far 50 companies and organisations have signed up to the scheme, including BT, Centrica and Tesco.
