Vauxhall names new city car

  • Name emerges for new Vauxhall city car
  • Previously known as the 'Junior' concept car
  • Expected to hit showrooms in early 2013

Vauxhall has announced the official name for its new city car – and it’s probably not what you’re expecting.

Unveiled via an odd cartoon strip press release, the new competitor for the likes of the Fiat 500 and the MINI hatchback is to be dubbed ‘Adam’.

That’s right – the Vauxhall Adam is coming early in 2013, and should be priced at around the same level as the ultra-popular MINI and chic Fiat. It’s actually already broken cover as the ‘Junior’ concept, but that name was deemed a little too childish for a car the firm promises won’t be cheap or low-budget. It is likely to be priced above the Corsa, and since mules have been spied lapping the Nurburgring we’d expect sporting intentions from the 3.7-metre-long Vauxhall.

Likely to be powered by a range of efficient petrol- and diesel-powered engines, it’s likely the Adam will appeal to company car drivers looking for something small yet premium. Vauxhall has a strong showing in the fleet sector, so there’s little reason to imagine things will be much different here.
