Company car drivers who get a choice of what vehicle they drive, known as user-choosers, are a key sales target for car manufacturers.

As a result, many car companies offer special models tailored to their needs, either by offering technical improvements to lower emissions and, therefore, driver’s company car tax bills, or by offering extra equipment for little or no increase in cost.

Here’s the Parkers pick of five of the most appealing all-round business edition packages for user-choosers…

1. Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi ECO Zetec Business Edition

  

Why buy?

An all-new Mondeo arrives next year, but in the meantime Ford is offering several value-led business editions, including a new range-topping Titanium X version. However, the cheaper Zetec Business Edition still comes with luxuries such as satellite navigation, parking sensors, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels and rear privacy glass.

2. Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI Executive SE 

  

Why buy?

For just £35 more than the previous (and now discontinued SE spec), the Executive SE version of the popular C-Class saloon comes with extra equipment including a sport grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, artificial leather seats and LED daytime running lights. CO2 emissions have also been reduced to just 109g/km.

3. Volvo V70 D2 Business Edition Start/Stop Powershift

 

 

Why buy?

The big V70 estate is one of a host of Business Editions from Volvo across the range. In this guise it features a 1.6-litre diesel engine delivering 115bhp allied to a Powershift automatic transmission.

As well as low emissions, the Business Edition version comes with the following extra equipment included: satellite navigation, upgraded multi-media entertainment, Bluetooth and rear park assist.

Why buy?

The Business Media package gives company car drivers a satellite navigation system, Bluetooth with telematics, SB audio and voice control, as well as the BMW Assist which provides up-to-date traffic information for more efficient journeys. It can also send the vehicle’s location to either the emergency services in the event of an accident or recovery if there is a breakdown.

Why buy?

Vauxhall offers Tech Line models throughout its line-up, each majoring on high-spec with low P11D price. The seven-seater Zafira Tourer Tech Line gains satellite navigation, 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, USB and aux-in socket, plus cruise control. The ecoFLEX engine with start/stop lowers CO2 emissions to 119g/km.
