With so many different trim levels, models and engine choices available, even if you’ve decided on the company car you want, that really is only half the battle.

The Ford Fiesta has been the UK’s biggest selling car for some time now and it doesn’t look like it will be knocked off its perch anytime soon, either. Following a facelift at the start of 2013, there’s far more visual appeal too thanks to that Aston Martin style front grille.

In the company car world the Fiesta, although not top of the biggest seller list, still sells in huge numbers.

With a wide variety of engine choices and trim levels, picking the car that is best suited for your lifestyle that has low enough tax costs and high fuel efficiency is a difficult balance to get just right.

Every driver has different needs, to help we’ve picked the best of the bunch for running costs and those who need a little extra performance.

For low tax and running costs

Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost

Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.0 EcoBoost five-door

It’s not often that a petrol engine makes a viable choice for a company car because of the higher CO2 emissions and lower fuel economy that the engines generally produce.

Ford’s 1.0 EcoBoost engine, designed and engineered here in the UK, has been named the International Engine of the Year for the second year running and Ford has doubled production to more than 1,000 engines a day at the Cologne factory to meet demand.

This Fiesta’s 1.0 EcoBoost Zetec produces 99g/km of CO2 placing it in an 11% percent tax band and comes accompanied by an impressive 65.7mpg claimed fuel economy.

But impressive figures are not the only string to this Fiesta’s bow – the ride is smooth and the car delivers precise handling, which means it’s good fun to drive too.

Want some extra performance?

Ford Fiesta ST-2

If you’re in the market for a little more driving fun but need to keep your tax costs down to appease your fleet manager, the Fiesta ST might just be the car for you.

There is 179bhp on offer which results in a 0-62 time of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 139mph. With superior handling it’s seriously fun to drive, and the ST also boasts some competitive economy and CO2 emissions figures with 47mpg and 138g/km respectively.

Equipment levels are pretty good too. Opting for the ST2 trim means you’ll get with alloy wheels, DAB radio, heated windscreen, heated seats with part leather trim, LED Daytime running lights, tinted rear windows and leather interior touches all as standard.

Unfortunately you will need to be prepared to make a compromise in space and practicality though as the ST is only available as a three-door.
