Following closely behind the recently launched Passat saloon and estate models, Volkswagen has announced that a frugal BlueMotion model will now join the line-up on both cars.

Available to order now, the Passat BlueMotion offers some of the best running cost figures in the segment with a combined fuel economy figure of 76.3mpg for both estate and saloon models.

Crucially for company car drivers will be the low CO2 emission figure of 95g/km which means the Passat BlueMotion falls into a 17 percent BIK tax band for the current 2015/16 year. With a starting p11d price of £23,145, rising to £24,695 for the estate, monthly tax bills could be as low as £65 a month for a 20 percent tax payer.

Fitted to all BlueMotion models is a modified version of the Passat’s entry-level 1.6-litre diesel engine which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. There’s 118bhp available with 250Nm of pulling power which enables the Passat to accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds (11 seconds for the estate) – a slight improvement over the current standard 1.6-litre model.

To help the Passat BlueMotion achieve those impressive running cost figures, all cars are fitted with stop/start technology and battery regeneration systems, plus 17-inch alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tyres are included as standard.

Based on entry-level S trim, all Passat BlueMotion cars come equipped with Bluetooth, air-con, electric door mirrors, heated rear window, electronic parking brake, leather steering wheel and gearknob, plus Volkswagen’s 6.5-inch infotainment system, unique BlueMotion front and rear bumpers, BlueMotion badging and chrome grille highlights.

Passat and Passat Estate BlueMotion models are available to order now, with first deliveries expected in August.
