Hyundai has revealed first details of the next-generation i20 ahead of its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

The popularity of the original i20 has made it one of the company’s best-selling cars in Europe, Hyundai is hoping that this new model will help drive even more people to the brand, developing perceptions of Hyundai as a premium manufacturer. Last year Hyundai sold a record 77,500 vehicles here in the UK so the plan appears to be working.

Hyundai’s new i20 has been designed and developed in Germany and among the big exterior changes is a new hexagonal grille and headlamp design plus a new wrap-around rear window and a gloss-finished black rear ‘C’ pillars.

Based on a new platform, the new i20 is 45mm longer than its predecessor offering one of the most spacious cabins in its class, claiming to be comfortably big enough to seat five adults.

Front and rear legroom has also been extended, while boot capacity has grown to an impressive 326 litres when the rear seats are in place.

Among the new features for the next-generation i20 is a panoramic sunroof, a first for the segment which can be either tiled or fully opened. An integrated rear-view camera and front and rear LED lighting also debut in the i20 for the first time.

Full specification and pricing details will be confirmed closer to its official debut in Paris in a couple of months time.
