The Peugeot 208 engine line-up has been revised for 2016 to include a new version of the firms popular 1.6-litre BlueHDI diesel.
According to the French car maker, it’s the best-performing non-hybrid in the UK to-date, with CO2 emissions starting from just 79g/km and an official combined fuel economy of 94mpg.
The 1.6-litre BlueHDi engine features stop/start technology as standard and offers 74bhp and 230Nm of torque, 0-62mph is achieved in 13.3 seconds with a possible top speed of 106mph.
You can pick this engine in two trims: Active or Allure in three- or five-door guises. With P11D prices starting from £14,940, its low CO2 output slots the car into a 16 percent BIK tax band for the current 2015/16 tax year, so it’ll cost a 20 percent tax payer £40 a month until April 2016 when the monthly costs rise to £45 for the 2016/17 tax year.
Standard equipment in Active trim includes Bluetooth, DAB radio, cruise control, LED daytime running lights and air-con. Moving up to Allure spec adds parking sensors, 16-inch alloys, tinted windows and automatic lights.
Every diesel version of the 208 falls below 95g/km of CO2 and meets Euro6 emissions standards. The larger 308 model has hatchback versions from 82g/km and the 308 SW estate from just 85g/km.
Peugeot is reducing the CO2 emissions of all of its vehicles and the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group maintained leadership in Europe in 2014 with an average CO2 of 110.3g/km, in a European market where the average is at 123.7g/km. As an individual brand Peugeot averaged 109.5g/km.

The latest generation of the 208 was launched in 2012, refreshed in 2015 and remains the best-selling Peugeot car.
