New Ford Mondeo Sport unveiled

There are big savings to be made with a new Sport special edition version of the Ford Mondeo.

Timed to coincide with the move to ‘60' registration numbers, you can now buy a Mondeo with a long list of added extras for just £300 over the price of the base Zetec model.

Only 3,000 cars will be built, and each gets a list of equipment worth over £2,000. The exterior of the car is treated to a set of 17" alloy wheels, while a solar-reflect windscreen keeps the cabin cool when the sun comes out. Four colours are available: White, Black, Grey and Silver.

Automatic windscreen wipers and headlamps are also included, along with a self-dimming rear-view mirror to cut down glare from the headlights of following cars. The final piece of the puzzle is a European satellite navigation system.

Available as a five-door or an estate, the pricing structure for the new Mondeo Sport depends on your choice of petrol or diesel.

The Sport version is available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 143bhp which starts at £18,795, while the 1.8-litre diesel option with 123bhp starts at £19,495. Either way, it's a considerable saving over the price of a normal Mondeo Zetec with all of the options the Sport has.

For company car buyers, the diesel Sport makes a lot of sense. As well as returning 48.7mpg, CO2 emissions of 154g/km mean the BIK tax (benefit in kind) is set in the 22% band.

This means if you're paying 20% BIK per month you'll pay £71, and if you're paying 40% per month you'll pay £141.
