Daihatsu Copen Coupe Cabriolet boot space, practicality and safety

2004 - 2010 (change model)
Practicality rating: 1 out of 51.0

Twin front airbags are standard as are dual side-impact door beams and extensive underfloor bracing. Twin roll-over bars are mounted for extra protection in the event of a roll-over accident and along with ABS the Copen also features electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) which avoids the locking-up of individual wheels during sever braking.

The biggest annoyance with the Copen is the non-existent boot. It’s okay with the roof up, but lower it and there’s only enough space for a couple of shopping bags. The roof itself isn’t particularly quick either – taking 25 seconds to lower – plus you have to release two clips first before it folds down. There’s minimal storage in the cabin either with tiny door pockets, a small glovebox and a lockable central cubby.
