Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 38 - 60 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

When it comes to saving money, the frugal diesel engines will be the top choice offering up to 10mpg more than the 1.4-litre petrol version. The diesels will also save you more money when it comes to servicing as they only need attention every 21,000 miles. Servicing and parts should be reasonable should anything go wrong, however Fiat dealers don’t have the best reputation for customer care.

Fiat continues to be the leading manufacturer when it comes to the lowest average emissions across its whole range of cars. This is largely in part to the MultiJet diesel engines with the 1.6-litre emitting just 138g/km of CO2 despite a power output of 105bhp – impressive for a car and engine of this size.

While there have been problems in the past, Fiat continues to improve on its reliability with the latest models proving robust and mechanically well put together. The previous Doblo proved to be reliable and well built with only minor problems reported.
