Turbocharger
A device that forces air under pressure into an engine allowing more fuel to be burned and thus increasing power. It works by boosting pressure from the exhaust.
For this reason, a turbo does not contribute power until the engine is starting to rev, in some instances creating turbo lag before the power suddenly increases dramatically.
Most diesel engines are turbocharged. Turbocharged petrol engines are largely only used for performance cars. The VW Golf GTI, Mazda3 MPS and BMW 335i are all turbocharged.
