Verdict

Car buyers' demands are increasing: now it seems they want everything squeezed into one package and that has forced manufacturers to come up with all kinds of niche models. The ix20 is aimed at people who want something compact and easy to drive around town, but also want enough space inside for passengers and luggage. It’s a tough ask, but Hyundai has achieved it with the ix20. It may share some components with the Kia Venga – both cars are built in the same factory – but Hyundai has rigorously tested the car on UK roads making it much more refined and comfortable than its South Korean lookalike. If low-cost motoring is also a priority then the ix20 ticks this box too, thanks to low emissions, low insurance groupings and decent fuel economy. The package is rounded off with good levels of equipment, competitive prices and the Hyundai bonus of a five-year warranty.
