Overview

Hyundai’s Veloster is a stylish, sleek coupe and it certainly turns a few heads. The three-door layout (two doors on the passenger side and one on the driver’s side) adds a bit of quirkiness. Technically, the Veloster is a four-door if you include the tailgate and although the addition of the extra door on the near side makes access easier for rear passengers it does make the car look unbalanced because the mid-pillars are not symmetrical.

So, the Veloster is an unconventional coupe and not just in the way it looks. It’s fair to say that coupe buyers want a car that’s entertaining to drive but, sadly, the Veloster is found wanting once you get it out on the open road. Enthusiasts are more likely, therefore, to choose the Vauxhall Astra GTC, the VW Scirocco, the Peugeot RCZ and the Audi TT over the Hyundai.

Its major attraction though, is that it offers value for money. There are not many coupes under £20,000 that offer a five-year unlimited mileage warranty so if you are on a tight budget it could be the car for you. Still, if you are after a coupe you have plenty to choose from. Can the Veloster cut it in this competitive market? Read on to find out…
