The FX is an expensive car, but represents good value when its specification is considered alongside alternatives like the BMW X6 and Porsche Cayenne. However, Infiniti FX running costs will be high: it is very thirsty (economy is less than 25mpg) and annual road tax will also be high. Servicing should be on a par with Porsche, but with only a handful of dealers, it may not be as convenient.

Infiniti FX emissions are high. Both petrol models are thirsty and their CO2 will put them in the highest road tax bands – the 3.7-litre emits 282g/km and the 5.0-litre puts out 310g/km of CO2. The diesel returns an average of 31mpg and emits 238g/km of CO2.

Although the engines are new, Infiniti FX reliability shouldn’t be questionable because they should follow the traits expected of a Japanese manufacturer (Infiniti is a division of Nissan) and offer good mechanical reliability.
