A car with a list price of £60,000 can never be described as cheap, but you do get plenty of equipment for the money. The coupe falls into insurance group 19, where most alternatives are in group 20. Fuel consumption is low at just 25mpg (given the performance that’s not bad) while servicing is expensive, although you can at least expect superb service from Jaguar dealers

The XK scores badly on the eco front and the 4.2-litre V8 engine emits 269g/km of CO2 and returns 25mpg. Compared to a standard family car this is poor, but alongside similarly powerful cars it’s about the same. The more powerful 5.0-litre introduced in early 2009 is actually cleaner, emitting 264g/km of CO2 but still averages 25mpg.

Jaguar has made great improvements in this area in recent years and the firm continues to score highly in customer satisfaction surveys both in the UK and the US.
