For Volkswagen green is Blue. Go for a Bluemotion model and you'll get a car that's been specially engineered to offer better fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions. It's one of the few cars in the UK that's exempt from road tax.

Europe's funkiest car maker got just about everything right when it launched the Ibiza. But it's only since the start of 2007 that an ultra eco-friendly model - in the shape of the Ecomotive - joined the line. Big MPG and no road tax to pay.
MINI Hatchback is very eco-friendly and easy on the environment. Go for a car from late 2007 fitted with 'EfficientDynamics'. It's not only one of the coolest cars around, but one of the greenest.

Clio retains the classless character of the previous two generations. It offers buyers more choice than other small cars, with a huge number of trim options, a wide range of petrol and diesel engines - a great choice for going green on a budget.
