The 1007 scores the maximum five stars from Euro NCAP in the crash tests. Every model is fitted with seven airbags, a highly protective structure and electronic stability control. Plenty of thought has gone into the design of the doors to ensure that they don’t hamper rescue efforts after an accident and nor are they likely to trap body parts when opening or closing as sensors will detect obstructions and stop the motors.

The doors cannot be activated automatically once the car is on the move although it is still possible to manually open them (as you can with a conventional door).

It may be compact (10cm shorter than a 206), but the 1007 is very versatile, so there’s plenty of scope to increase carrying space. The boot itself has a low floor so it’s pretty deep and the rear seats can slide to give more leg room for the rear passengers or more boot space. The rear seats also split and fold flat or can be tilted forwards for a larger rear storage area.

The passenger seat back can also be folded for carrying longer items. For example, folding the rear and passenger seats flat allows a mountain bike to be carried fully assembled. Flipping the rear seats forward does need the front seats to be quite far forward so taller drivers will want to look closely before they buy. There are lots of storage areas for odds and ends.

Finally, the doors can be opened remotely so you can walk up and jump in even with your arms full.
