We expect Peugeot 108 safety levels to be pretty good. Although it has yet to be tested by the official crash-testing body EuroNCAP, the French firm expects it to score well when it has its round of tests.

Hill Assist is now standard across the range; is a system designed to help keep the car stationary when stopping and starting on hills.

Other standard safety features include ABS (Antilock Braking System), rear door child safety locks (five-door only), seatbelt alarm for front passengers, airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as front side airbags and front and rear curtain airbags.

Also available as standard is a puncture repair kit (the spare wheel is standard on Allure and Feline and as an option on Active and Access), tyre pressure sensors and a speed limiter on Allure and Feline trims.

Despite the cars compact dimensions, Peugeot 108 practicality is very good.

There is now 196 litres of boot space available, up 59 litres from the previous 107. That’s easily enough room for two small suitcases or one medium suitcase in the back.

The rear seats can be folded easily too via a fabric handle which is accessible from the boot. The rear seats fold in a 50/50 split formation in all versions except in Access trim. To make loading your bags easier after your weekly shop the tailgate has also been lowered 20mm when compared to the 107.

Two three-point ISOFIX seats are also available in the rear making the Peugeot 108 a viable choice if you are planning to start a family.

Despite being a small car it is surprisingly roomy inside and when it comes to storage space there are plenty of options upfront including cup holders, reasonable sized door pockets, a fairly big glove box and practical storage options for your mobile phone and loose change.

In the back is also pretty roomy with small door pockets and a cup holder available to store your personal items plus pop-out rear windows.
