Equipment

5 out of 5 5.0

The new Peugeot 108 is available in four trims as a three-door - Access, Active, Allure and Feline - and three trims as a five-door: Active Allure and Feline. Similar to many of the French manufacturer’s cars, the middle range Active trim is predicted to account for 50 percent of the total sales with the entry-model only taking five percent.

The 108 Top which includes a very large retractable roof is available in two trims; Active and Allure.

Standard Peugeot 108 equipment

City cars are not renowned for their levels of standard kit, with some entry-level models missing out on important functions like remote central locking and electric windows. We are happy to report that the Peugeot 108 has both of these and more making the entry-model very good value for money against similarly priced rivals like the Volkswagen Up and SEAT Mii.

The range starts at Access trim and standard kit includes electric front windows, height-adjustable steering wheel, remote central locking, radio, 14-inch steel wheels, LED daytime running lights and USB port.

It’s worth remembering though that if you are looking to buy the new Peugeot 108 in Access trim, the car is only available as a three-door.

The next trim level up is the popular Active trim which adds Bluetooth, DAB Radio, steering wheel mounted controls, manual air-con, rear windows that pop open, seven-inch colour touchscreen multimedia system, 50/50 rear seat split, head restraints in the rear, colour coded door mirrors and handles and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Move up to Allure trim and you’ll get 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, electric door mirrors which are also heated, automatic headlights, tinted rear and back windows, rev counter, reversing camera, keyless start and spare wheel all as standard above the Active trim.

The range-topping Feline trim adds a little extra luxury over the Allure and includes leather interior, dual zone air-con, aluminium interior details and chrome interior touches.

If you are considering the 108 Top additional features as standard include the black retractable roof and a change in interior trim over hatchback models, the Allure Top also gets chrome door mirrors and handles as standard.

Optional Peugeot 108 accessories

There’s plenty to choose from when it comes to options for the new Peugeot 108 as the French firm is keen to allow its customers to personalise the car as much as possible.

Options like metallic paint and leather seats are available but there are also seven different interior patterns to choose from including a Diamonte interior, barcode design, tattoo, Kilt and a ‘Dressy’ theme. Opting for these themes adds matching carpet mats, key fob design, door mirror covers and some internal and external patterned stickers.

If you want to spruce up your dashboard you can also choose between Porcelain, Purple Berry, Diamonte and Aikinite ambience.

The 108 Up also has optional roof colours; Purple Berry or Grey.

Other options which you may consider, especially if you are going to buy the entry-model include DAB Radio, Bluetooth, and a spare wheel.

Safety

3 out of 5 3.0

We expect Peugeot 108 safety levels to be pretty good. Although it has yet to be tested by the official crash-testing body EuroNCAP, the French firm expects it to score well when it has its round of tests.

Hill Assist is now standard across the range; is a system designed to help keep the car stationary when stopping and starting on hills.

Other standard safety features include ABS (Antilock Braking System), rear door child safety locks (five-door only), seatbelt alarm for front passengers, airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as front side airbags and front and rear curtain airbags.

Also available as standard is a puncture repair kit (the spare wheel is standard on Allure and Feline and as an option on Active and Access), tyre pressure sensors and a speed limiter on Allure and Feline trims.

Interior & boot space

4 out of 5 4.0

Despite the cars compact dimensions, Peugeot 108 practicality is very good.

There is now 196 litres of boot space available, up 59 litres from the previous 107. That’s easily enough room for two small suitcases or one medium suitcase in the back.

The rear seats can be folded easily too via a fabric handle which is accessible from the boot. The rear seats fold in a 50/50 split formation in all versions except in Access trim. To make loading your bags easier after your weekly shop the tailgate has also been lowered 20mm when compared to the 107.

Two three-point ISOFIX seats are also available in the rear making the Peugeot 108 a viable choice if you are planning to start a family.

Despite being a small car it is surprisingly roomy inside and when it comes to storage space there are plenty of options upfront including cup holders, reasonable sized door pockets, a fairly big glove box and practical storage options for your mobile phone and loose change.

In the back is also pretty roomy with small door pockets and a cup holder available to store your personal items plus pop-out rear windows.

How does the boot space compare?

Check the table below to see how the Peugeot 108 compares to other similar cars in terms of available boot space.

Model Boot space
Volkswagen Up 250 litres
Ford Ka (09-16) 224 litres
Peugeot 108 180 litres
Toyota Aygo 168 litres
