What is miles per pound?

Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 28 - 35 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The standard model is claimed to average 34mpg with the manual gearbox. The PDK automatic should return around 37mpg.The Boxster S is surprisingly frugal too, returning a claimed 32mpg with the six-speed and 35mpg with the PDK. Insurance and maintenance is, as you’d expect, costly.

The standard Boxster emits CO2 at a rate of 192g/km with the six-speed manual gearbox, and 180g/km with the semi-automatic PDK transmission. The S, meanwhile, has a CO2 emissions rating of 206g/km with the manual gearbox and 188g/km with the PDK system. These emissions figures are equivalent to, or in some cases substantially lower than, other similar cars.

Porsches are usually bulletproof so you would be unlucky if you experienced any major problems in the car’s early life. The cabin is solidly built so minor niggles should be a rarity. Porsche does not appear in any UK customer satisfaction surveys, but in the US recently it has performed well. Porsche dealerships are also generally well regarded for their good levels of customer service.
